Over the last several years, large-scale attacks targeting customer credit card information at retailers have made media headlines. In some cases, these attacks used third party vendors as a point of entry into name brand retailers.
Customers have not been pleased. Technology leaders are listening. According to the National Retail Federation, 97% of retail CIOs claimed data security was a top five priority for 2015. Despite the awareness and efforts by retail leaders to improve data security, SecurityScorecard finds the retail industry is currently suffering from web application weaknesses from legacy systems and the proliferation of malware.
Using our proprietary data, SecurityScorecard analyzed the top and bottom 10% of retailers across comparable, public-facing Internet footprints from July through October, representing roughly 200 companies.
